Watterson Towers will be the sixth residence hall to be renovated as part of the Long Range Plan for Housing and Dining. Watterson was opened in 1968 and is home to approximately 2200 students. The renovation project has both an exterior and interior component. The project includes addressing several major deferred maintenance items, updating the overall appearance, insulating the connecting link of the building, expanding the sprinkler system, repairing the facade, updating the bathrooms on student floors, replacing furniture and adding wireless capability throughout the facility. The renovation work will kick off during March 2010 (depending on weather) with the beginning stages of façade repairs. The interior work will begin in May 2010 after the close of the spring semester. As this renovation project will occur while the building is occupied, University Housing Services staff is working on several communication methods to keep residents and others informed about the progress of the project and will be using this website as one of the main sources to provide updates.
For more information, check out the Watterson Towers Renovation site.
The Long Range Plan for Housing and Dining has been guiding our renovations since 2003 when it was presented to the Board of Trustees. The overall goal is to provide 21st century facilities offering a welcoming environment that is comfortable, attractive, and provides variety and flexibility in room options. Each renovation project to date has included: replacing furniture, adding sprinklers, improving energy efficiency with window replacement, redesigning the floor layout, and updating the building entry and lobby.

The Renovation Advisory Council was started in 2005 to provide University Housing Services and Campus Dining Services with student input about the initiatives identified in the Long Range Plan for Housing and Dining. The Council meets monthly and is designed for students to offer opinions on a variety of topics ranging from design ideas and fabric selections to the impact of renovation decisions.
