How to live on the Substance Free Community
Students who wish to live in the Substance Free Community must complete the Substance Free Application. Acceptance to the community is based on individual responses to the questions on the application.
The community offers many opportunities for academic and social interaction:
- Interaction with faculty outside of the classroom
- High-quality programming to help you make friends quickly and have fun!
- Study sessions/groups for classes
- Opportunities to interact with friends on field trips and social programs for the floor
- Personal and floor volunteer opportunities in the Bloomington-Normal Communities
- Opportunities to learn about the student organizations at Illinois State University and how to get involved
Policy: Residents living in the substance free community should not:
- Consume: that is use alcohol, cigarettes, illegal drugs, and any illicit substances
- Be in the possession of alcohol, cigarettes, illegal drugs, and any illicit substances regardless of how and where it is actually used
- Be in the presence of any illegal drug consumption or promote any illegal drug culture
Students must also:
- Attend 1 weekend program a month
- Attend 2 additional programs per semester
The Substance-Free Community is facilitated by University Housing Services at the request of students who are committed to having a substance-free college experience. This commitment, and the support University Housing Services is providing for students who want to live a substance-free lifestyle is taken very seriously. If an individual does not keep this commitment, Residence Hall staff members will seek to bring about a resolution which will serve to maintain the integrity of the community lifestyle which could result in the Administrative removal from the Substance-free Community.
