There's always something to do here!

What is it like to live here? They say variety is the spice of life and we're sure you'll agree there's plenty of variety in the housing options we offer.

Residence Halls

Just as classrooms provide academic lessons, the residence halls provide life lessons. While living on campus, you will be faced with many opportunities to learn more about the world around you. These opportunities may sometimes seem overwhelming or difficult, but by taking full advantage of them, you can expand your horizons, learn more about yourself, and bridge the gap into the real world. Illinois State's 10 residence halls are more than just buildings. They house over 6,000 students from all backgrounds and cultures. Not only are the residence halls a great place to meet people, they also offer unique opportunities to get involved and gain leadership skills, learn from faculty, and bring classroom lessons to life. To learn more about the buildings themselves, take a room tour and read about our building features.

University-Owned Apartments

Looking for a different kind of spice in your life? In addition to the residence halls, Illinois State owns and operates two apartment complexes, Cardinal Court and 300 Shelbourne Drive. Our 292 affordable apartments are open to students who are married or in domestic partnerships, students with dependents, graduate students and qualifying upperclass students.

Note:  University admission and enrollment do not guarantee the availability of on-campus housing.  Furthermore, a student must be registered at the University and must be at least 17 years of age at the time of commencement of his/her residence hall occupancy. Requests for exceptions to the minimum age requirement may be submitted to University Housing Services for review by the Director.  University Housing Services reserves the right to deny or cancel a residence hall application-contract to students whose past behavior and/or criminal record indicates a possible risk to the safety, health, or life of any person, and/or to the safety of public or private property, and/or disruption to the residence hall community or living-learning environment.
