Faculty Mentor Program. Faculty mentors and resident assistants are working to provide our students with the individualized attention that distinguishes our university. Together, we make Illinois State University a great place to live and learn!

YOU MAY NEVER KNOW

You may never know when someone
May catch a dream from you.
You may never know when a little word
Or something you may do
May open up the windows of a mind that seeks light.
The way you live may not matter at all.
But you never know... it might.

And just in case, it could be,
That's another's life, through you, might possible change for
the better with a brighter and broader view.
It seems it might be  worth a try
At pointing out the way to the right.
Of course, it may not be better at all,
But then again it might.

The Faculty Mentor Program, a unique aspect of the Illinois State housing experience since 1994, joins interested faculty members and residence hall students through programming.

Introduction

University Housing Services is committed to providing quality out-of-the-classroom experiences for on-campus students (those students living in residence halls and the on-campus apartment complexes). Recognizing the impact that faculty members have for students, both in the classroom and out, UHS is interested in pursuing avenues to increase the participation between students and faculty members.

Purpose

The purpose of the Faculty Mentor Program is to provide an open community within the residence halls and apartment living complexes for faculty participation with students. This interactive environment would lead to increased interaction between students and faculty. Increased interaction would facilitate a greater understanding for students of the academic process and involve faculty in a new out-of-class experience with students.

Goals

  1. To bring faculty mentors and on-campus students together in order to increase interaction and share perspectives.
  2. To provide on-campus students with consistent and informal exposure to faculty role models.
  3. To encourage students' use of Faculty Mentors as resources for information, referral and/or advising.
  4. To encourage multi-generational interaction between students and faculty.
