Wondering what "extras" the residence halls have in store for you? We've got everything covered from air conditioning to cable TV, computer labs to music practice rooms, and laundry facilities to fitness centers!

Facilities and Services. Take a look through some of our featured services to discover what the residence halls have to offer!

All services and facilities offered through University Housing Services are for residents' use only.

In Your Room...

ResNet

ResNet is a high speed Ethernet connection available to students on a subscription basis in all campus residence halls. Each student can have their own "always on" connection to the world-wide Internet. The ResNet connection also leaves the room phone free for making and receiving calls. Students are responsible for making sure their computer has an Ethernet port and purchasing a networking cable (available on campus). In addition, ResNet offers phone and in-room computer support through the use of RCCs (Residential Computer Consultants).

Campus Connection

Campus Connection is an advertising channel for anyone interested in promoting student activities, campus events, class information, community services, intramural programs and more.  It is broadcast over the residence hall cable TV.  For rates and procedures, download this PDF or contact University Housing Services at 8-5399.

Cable TV

Cable is offered to students living in residence halls.  For information about the channels offered in the halls as well as TV listings, please visit our channels and listings page.  If you are in need of a cable to connect your television to the cable system in your room, you may purchase one at nominal cost from the Association of Residence Halls (ARH).

Air Conditioning/Heating

To allow for proper operation of convector units in all halls, please keep top of room convectors clear of belongings at all times. Residents need to keep all furniture, personal items and belongings at least 6 inches from in front of convector cabinets. When requesting maintenance repairs, please move all items away from convectors to allow University personnel access to the equipment. (This also includes the ceiling-mounted air conditioning units at South Campus.)

Most of the residence hall student rooms are equipped with air conditioning for your comfort. (Student rooms in Dunn-Barton and Walker Halls are not equipped with air conditioning, but box fans are supplied.) Residents are urged to keep windows and doors closed when air conditioning is operating. Open windows and doors waste energy and upset the balance of the air conditioning units, drastically reducing operating efficiency. Depending on the weather, air conditioning will be turned off for the season in mid-September for the remainder of the academic year.

In Your Residence Hall...

Fitness Center

For those of you who like to work out and stay physically fit, each residence hall area has a designated fitness center. This center is equipped with free weights, a universal gym station, Nautilus circuit, exercise mats, Stairmasters, Windracers, and other physical conditioning equipment. Check with a staff member, desk receptionist, or postings throughout the halls for the location and operating times for these facilities in your residential area.

Computer Labs

Residence hall computer labs are located in Walker, Whitten, Wright, Manchester, and Watterson. The labs are connected to a file server for shared applications and sharing data. The computers are connected to Illinois State's campus backbone network for connectivity to the Internet.

Piano Practice Rooms

Each residential area has at least one piano for student use. Residents may need to check out the key to this facility through each hall's reception desk. Check with a staff member for more specific information.

Study Areas

University Housing Services provides a study area for resident use in each of the five areas of campus. Each study area maintains a supply of periodicals, books, and other reading materials for research and pleasure.

Recreation Areas

No matter what your favorite form of sport or recreation, you will find that you have the opportunity to enjoy it at Illinois State University. Tennis courts are available to the east of Atkin-Colby and behind University High School. Softball fields and the University golf course are located just a few blocks northwest of West Campus. Outdoor basketball courts are located on the south side of Watterson Towers, the west side of East Campus, and the south side of West Campus.

Campus Recreation Services offers a wide variety of outdoor programs. Sailboats, canoes, paddle boats and rowboats are available for rental at the boat concession on Lake Evergreen.

In addition, the Illinois State University Intramural Office organizes a variety of athletic leagues throughout the year. Indoor facilities for basketball, volleyball, running, swimming, weight training, bowling, and billiards are also available at selected times for student use.

Laundry Facilities

For your convenience, each residence hall has a laundry room with moderately priced, coin-operated washers and dryers. In 2006, all washing machines and dryers in the residence halls were replaced and upgraded with new front loading, high-capacity, energy-efficient Maytag models.

Except in South Campus, residence hall laundry rooms have also been upgraded with a computer system called LaundryView™. LaundryView™ is an Internet application that allows you to monitor the status of washers and dryers through a Web browser. LaundryView™ allows users greater control over laundry activities. LaundryView™ helps save time by providing information about the current state of laundry room equipment wherever you have access to a browser or e-mail messages.

Kitchenettes

Stoves, ovens, sinks and refrigerators are available in several residence halls to allow you to occasionally prepare your own meals. Residents may use these facilities by exchanging their driver's license for the room key.

Lounges

Each residence hall has a certain amount of lounge space available. These areas are generally used for recreation and relaxation but can also be used as a place to study. These areas are generally furnished with chairs, tables, lamps and couches.

E-Mail Express

Campus Dining Services provides e-mail stations at Southside in Feeney and Watterson Food Court and will be expanding this service to the other dining centers in the near future. Also, in each dining center, there are 10-12 "open data jacks" for residents to connect to the Internet with a laptop.
