Housing staff cares about the safety and well being of each student in the residence halls. Our professional staff, including but not limited to resident assistants, residence hall coordinators, and assistant residence hall coordinators are well trained and available to assist students with any concerns they have during their residence hall experience.
Once your student arrives on campus, information from the University regarding academics and campus life will be sent directly to him/her. We send all housing documents on a set residence hall mailing schedule. If your student has not received a mailing by the date listed on the schedule, he or she should contact Housing. Although many (if not most) parents contribute to their student's finances, it is ultimately up to the student to manage his or her own affairs and responsibilities while at Illinois State. After all, one of the most important aspects of going away to college is becoming more independent and self-reliant.
Occasionally, when faced with a difficult situation a student may want a parent to step in to help. University Housing Services (UHS) is happy to answer parents’ general questions about the residence halls and to provide information about room and meal plan rates, room assignments, and various procedures. For confidentiality reasons, however, we are unable to respond to specific questions about students. However, we will be happy to talk with students and to provide them with any information they need or want to pass along to you.
During this transitional period, the best thing you can do is be there for your student when he or she asks for your guidance and support. That's what we're here for, too.
