Take a look through some of our featured services to discover what the residence halls have to offer. All services and facilities offered through University Housing Services are for residents' use only.
The residence hall system provides numerous opportunities for part-time employment. Student help is used in the dining centers, resource centers, reception desks, computer labs, and fitness centers. Students can also work as office assistants. Some positions may require that employees have work study.
Storage lockers are provided on the floors for residents of South Campus. Locks for these lockers must be provided by the residents. Students are not permitted to store personal items in common areas.
Incoming U.S. mail to students in residence halls is delivered directly to each hall by the U.S. Post Office daily Monday through Saturday, except designated postal holidays. All mail should be addressed to you as shown on the individual Residence Hall pages. Please give this information to those who may write you. Your mailing address must include the room number. Do not include Illinois State University in your address.
*Note to Watterson Residents:Watterson Towers has ten separate house names: Smith, Jefferson, Monroe, Randolph, Adams, Pickering, Clay, Marshall, Van Buren, and Madison Houses. The house name is an important part of your address and must be included on all correspondence.
Residents are encouraged to go to the front desk and fill out a work request for any maintenance problems they encounter. You can also fill out an online work request.
At least one room in each area of campus has been designated by University Housing services as a meeting room. These rooms are for the exclusive use of residence hall student groups currently registered with the Dean of Students Office (i.e., Area Governments, Unity, the Association of Residence Halls, and residence hall staff conducting programs and other functions in the halls). More than 50 percent of the group members in attendance must currently live in the residence hall where the meeting is to be held. To learn about the facilities available in your area, the guidelines for their use, and the reservations policy, contact a residence hall staff member. Remember to finalize your reservations well in advance of the day scheduled for the event or activity since these rooms are quite popular with various clubs and organizations. Meeting rooms are routinely checked by hall staff.
Each residence hall is equipped with a public address system operated from the reception desk by authorized personnel only. The public address system is used for emergency situations and brief daily announcements.
Each residence hall has its own reception desk located in the hall lobby. Reception desk personnel can answer many questions about residence halls and the campus. Student receptionists operate the desk between 6 a.m. and midnight seven days a week in all areas. Reception desks provide the following services: mail and parcel post distribution (except Watterson where package distribution hours will be posted), equipment check out, room tag key check out, room telephone information, public address announcements concerning emergencies and various residence hall activities, guest registration, local lost and found, vending machine refund requests, light bulb exchange, and a variety of other convenient services.
University Housing Services works with the Town of Normal to provide a convenient recycling program to residence hall students and students living in university-owned apartments. This program not only helps the environment but also helps to keep room and board costs at a minimum. The program collects aluminum cans, newsprint, corrugated cardboard mixed paper (including magazines), pizza boxes, pressed board, steel cans, glass, and plastic waste.
Refrigerators are permitted in students rooms, provided they do not exceed 4.3 cubic feet or draw more than 1.5 running amps. University Housing Services allows students to bring their own refrigerators, but does not rent or provide them.
Every student room on campus is equipped with a smoke detector.
Every student room will be equipped with a fire sprinkler.
Each residence hall room is equipped with a University-owned telephone that is compatible with the current phone system. (With the exception of Wilkins, Wright, Haynie, and Hewett Halls -- we will provide live phone jacks for students and push-button telephones can be requested by contacting their Resident Assistant).
The residence halls are equipped with trash chutes, located on each floor so that students can easily dispose of their garbage and waste.
Each residence hall has vending machines with a variety of snack items. Most vending machines accept coins, cash, and debit cards.
