Residence hall on-line room selection is at your fingertips!
Beginning on your "Web date," you may access the Room Selection process to select a room, roommate, or make a change from 4:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. (midnight) Monday through Saturday. If you do not have access to a computer with Internet access or would prefer a University Housing staff member to make your assignment, please contact an Assignment Staff member at (309) 438-8611 on or after your "Web date."
Once in the program you will be taken step-by-step through the process. You will be asked questions such as, "Do you have a roommate preference?" and "Would you like to search for a room by lifestyle, building, age, or class of current resident?" Once you select a room and complete the entire process, you will receive an email confirmating your selections.
Available Rooms
While going through the room selection process, you will be able to search for and see all available rooms for which you qualify to choose. A few examples of the selections you will have are:
- if you have a roommate preference, you will be shown only empty double rooms.
- if you have two roommate preferences, you will be shown only empty triple rooms.
- if you do not have a roommate preference, you will be shown rooms with both one and two vacancies.
- if you search for rooms by the current resident's class in school, you will be shown rooms matching your selection.
- if you search for rooms by a specific lifestyle.
You will have the option of searching for rooms in specific residence halls. You will be shown a list of residence halls that have available rooms. However, if there are no rooms available in a residence hall or if you do not qualify for the rooms that are open, that residence hall will not appear on the list. For example, if there are no rooms available in Walker Hall or you do not qualify for any of the rooms that are open, Walker Hall will not appear on the list.
Roommates
During the Room Selection process, you will be able to make a request for one or two preferred roommate (s). All roommate requests must be mutual. You must know your preferred roommate's "room selection code" if your request is for a new student or the student's University Login ID (ULID) if your request is for a returning student. All requested roommates must have an active residence hall contract for a regular residence hall space.
It is not necessary for roommates to access the Room Selection process on the same date or time. The student with the earliest "Web date" may secure a room for themselves and their roommate preference. In other words, the first roommate who goes on-line selects an empty double room, which gives them one of the spaces in the room and reserves the other space for their roommate. Even if you are requested by a student who has an earlier "Web date," you cannot confirm your room and roommate assignment until your own "Web date."
If a new or returning student has already selected a room and requested you as a roommate, you must still go through the Room Selection process on or after your "Web date" to confirm your room and roommate. You are not automatically assigned to the room just because another student holds a space for you.
Don't be concerned if you do not have a roommate preference--many new students don't. Students without a roommate preference may select a space in an empty room or a space in a room where another student is already assigned. If another student has already signed up for the room, you will be able to see the student's age, class in school, and major. Names and addresses of roommates are not provided during the on-line Room Selection process unless the request is mutual.
Singles
You will be allowed to select single-occupancy rooms, if available. You may select a single-occupancy room if it is available when you choose your room, or you may select a multiple-occupancy room and re-enter the Room Selection process at a later time to search for any available single-occupancy rooms. The demand for single and super single rooms is high and a single-occupancy room may not be available for you to choose in the Room Selection process. Many students who desire a single-occupancy room will not be able to select one. If this is the case, you may place your name on the single-occupancy waiting list for a room that may become available after the residence halls open in the fall.
Lifestyle Floors
As you go through the Room Selection process, you may want to consider living on a Lifestyle Floor. You must meet the minimum qualifications and/or complete the application process if there is one in order to sign up for a room on a lifestyle floor. Roommate preferences must also meet the qualification of the lifestyle in order to be requested. During check-in, all students living on a lifestyle floor will sign a Lifestyle addendum agreeing to the lifestyle policies. Students who do not abide by the policies and/or do not fulfill the requirements may be required to move to a different floor or residence hall either during or at the end of the semester.
Confirmation
An e-mail confirmation of your selections will be sent within 24 hours. If you do not receive a confirmation, please contact University Housing to verify your selections.
A room assignment notice will be mailed to all new students by August 1. This notice will contain the assigned hall and room number, room telephone number, and roommate's name, address, and email address. Do to privacy reasons roommate telephone numbers are not released by University Housing.
Changes
Once you have selected a room and completed the Room Selection process on or after your "Web date," you may re-enter the process at any time that the process is open to make a change. As cancellations and room changes occur during the summer, additional spaces become available... perhaps in a hall you would like to live in. You may check the Web site as many times as you wish to see if rooms have become available. If you select a different room, the room you had selected previously will immediately be available for selection by another student. All changes are confirmed by e-mail.
Your Computer
The on-line Room Selection program is accessible on computers using Netscape Communicator 4.51 and above, or Internet Explorer 5.0 and above, each with 128-bit encryption. To find out which of these you have, you may open your Internet browser, choose Help, and then choose "About...". The next screen will tell you which version of Internet browser you have and will give you update information if needed. Also, if you choose, you may use the update links to Netscape and Explorer located on the first page of the Room Selection program. For more information about your Internet browser, you call the University Help Desk at (309) 438-HELP (4357).
Rooms for Graduate Students
There are super single rooms for graduate students located in Hamilton-Whitten Hall. During the Room Selection process, graduate students will be able to choose any of therooms designated for graduate students.
